I purchased an IC-7000 because at the time, my new Kenwood TS-2000 unexpectedly died TWICE. The IC-7000 filled the gap while I lost the Kenwood for two separate 6 month periods for warranty repair. I really like the 7000 and felt it was better than the TS-2000 because its control surface seemed to be simplified for mobile use. The only problem I later discovered with the IC-7000 is that it appears to be finicky about the power supply. With a battery it seems to produce only about 3/4 of its power output whereby a 13.8 V external power supply allows it to produce 100W. This is not the case with the IC-7100. The 7000 also produces a fair amount of heat just sitting there. Having said all that, I did install this into two separate vehicles and it worked consistently and the control layout was great for mobile use once I understood it. I only noticed the power slump issue when I tried to run it off batteries that were not in association with a vehicle or alternator.
