The little box trailer has been shifted again 1km and about 32 metres higher in a move that was prompted by Glenn. Last weekend I took a ride out to the area and rode up the driveway of another local land owner out of the blue, who graciously gave us permission to trial the site. Just amazing the people out here. Yesterday I shifted the unit into it’s latest spot largely as a test for Glenn and the possibility of moving Channel 45 there. I managed to arrange a mobile test with Kaptain Koorawatha and it’s operation was on par with how it performed in it’s previous position. This is the fifth site we have moved the repeater to this year after Gary’s untimely death left us without a home and being kicked off Big Box Trig.

Above: The quarry site prior to Wally’s.

The repeater is still only using a 10W Motorola SLR1000 into a Diamond X30 with significant loss in output due to the duplexer we use, but the compact and frugal setup has meant we can experiment with different sites, move it swiftly elsewhere and gain insight on how to deal with the difficult terrain out here.

This latest site sets the repeater back a little further east which is the reverse of what I’d like but the footprint for installing a mast is more accomodating.
